A Look at the Weather Through August, Pacific Northwest Heat Wave, and the Coming Total Solar Eclips

The Pacific Northwest is in for a major heat wave this week, and some records may be shattered by as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit! For example, see the image below, where the record high for August 2nd for Medford, Oregon is 105 degrees, and the forecast high temperature is 114 degrees!

A look at the weather for August based on Meteorologist Brett Anderson's (from Accuweather.com) interpretation of the European model as well as other factors can be seen in the images below. For Long Island, it's showing warmer than normal weather for early August, but cooler and wetter conditions for the middle to end of the month:

Regarding the coming total solar eclipse from Christopher C. Burt at www.wunderground.com:

"On August 21, the continental United States will host one of the most spectacular total solar eclipse events to have occurred since the arrival of Europeans to its shores. Given there has not been a total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. since 1979 (and that one was almost entirely unseen due to clouds and rain along its path across the Pacific Northwest), the coming event is likely to be one of the most well-documented eclipses in U.S. history. This, of course, is given the advent of digital photography, smart phones, and social media since the last total eclipse mentioned above."

The following image shows the areas that will see the total eclipse of the sun:
