Long Island Weather and a Tropical Update

Today and tomorrow look like great days on Long Island with mostly sunny skies, low humidity, and temperatures close to 80 degrees. The forecast becomes more uncertain this weekend. Friday should remain dry, although skies could be mostly cloudy keeping temperatures in the mid to upper 70's. Saturday should also be mostly cloudy, but there is a 30% chance of a few showers. At this time, Sunday looks to be partly cloudy with only a slight chance of a shower.

Regarding the tropics, Tropical Storm Franklin should strengthen into a hurricane before heading into Mexico late tonight. As for the system in the Atlantic, the European model run from yesterday afternoon showed it strengthening into a hurricane not far off the coast of Florida and Georgia by Monday morning; however, on the overnight run, the European model has backed off on the intensity to a great extent. It still shows it possibly reaching Tropical Storm strength, but it also keeps it well offshore. The GFS model continues to not show any development. At this time, even if it does develop, it will likely remain well offshore!

The following image shows the expected track of the tropical system in the Atlantic, which could develop into Tropical Storm Gert:
