Tropical Storm Gert to Strengthen, Watching the Next Tropical Wave, Long Island Weather, and a Look

Tropical Storm Gert will strengthen and possibly become a Hurricane in the next couple of days as it passes between North Carolina and Bermuda. It will then head northeast out to sea. The following image is from the GFS model, and it's showing the location of the storm as of 8:00 tomorrow night:

The next tropical wave has a chance to become Tropical Storm Harvey by the end of this week. There is still plenty of time to watch it. The European model shows it eventually becoming a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. The GFS model overnight was less bullish on development than its previous runs.

The weather for Long Island looks good this week. There is a slight chance of a stray shower late tonight into Tuesday, but most places will remain dry. Wednesday looks like the best day with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80's. Clouds will increase Thursday afternoon, and there will be showers and thunderstorms at times from late Thursday night into Saturday morning.

With the total solar eclipse coming next Monday to the United States, the following image shows where clouds and showers will be present (areas in color for showers and bright white areas for clouds). I will refine the eclipse forecast as we get closer to it.
