Hurricane Gert Wind Gusts to 115 MPH and Long Island Weather Through This Weekend
Hurricane Gert has continued to strengthen overnight and now has sustained winds of 90 mph with gusts as high as 115 mph. It may strengthen a little more through tonight, but then it should begin to steadily weaken as it races northeast out to sea.
For Long Island, today will be a very warm day with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 80's. Tomorrow will be partly to mostly sunny with temperatures in the low 80's. Clouds will increase tomorrow evening, and there will be periods of showers and thunderstorms from around midnight tomorrow night until around 5:00 Saturday morning. Skies should clear up for Saturday afternoon with temperatures in the low to mid 80's. Sunday and Monday should be mostly sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 80's. Conditions should be clear Monday afternoon for the partial solar eclipse on Long Island.
