Nate to Make Landfall Near New Orleans on Sunday and Bring Heavy Rain to Long Island

Tropical Storm Nate is still on a path towards New Orleans, and it should make landfall on Sunday as a Category 1 hurricane or a strong tropical storm. It's a relatively fast moving storm, so rainfall amounts for New Orleans should mostly be in the range of 3 to 5 inches. Wind gusts at landfall should mostly be in the 60 mph to 80 mph range.

The remnants of Nate are expected to pass over Long Island late Monday night, bringing heavy rain, especially as it interacts with a frontal system. Long Island could see 2 to 3 inches of rain from late Sunday night into early Tuesday morning. If the ALDS series between the Yankees and Indians goes to a Game 4, there is a good chance that it will be rained out Monday night.
