An overview and the Long Island forecast:

- It still looks like a pretty good chance of a Tropical Storm in the Gulf of Mexico towards mid-month, but nothing is imminent.

- After humid weather with periods of showers and thunderstorms today and tomorrow on Long Island, Saturday to Wednesday looks like a dry and very warm stretch of weather before more seasonable highs of 75 to 80 degrees return for next weekend and mid-month.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:


Today: Humid with some showers in the morning into early afternoon with some moderate to heavy downpours possible and then becoming much more scattered in the afternoon with a break in the action and mostly cloudy conditions. Highs in the upper 60's to low 70's. Wind out of the S at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm with lows mostly in the low 60's. Wind out of the SSW at 10 to 15 mph, but strong gusty winds are possible in any thunderstorm.

Tomorrow: Humid with some morning showers and possibly a thunderstorm and then remaining mostly cloudy with some breaks of sun and a chance of a shower or thunderstorm again in the late afternoon and in the evening. Highs in the mid 70's. Wind mostly out of the SW at 10 to 15 mph, but strong gusty winds are possible in any thunderstorm.

Saturday: Mostly sunny with highs mostly in the low 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the WSW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and out of the SSW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday: Sunny with highs mostly in the low to mid 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the SW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Monday: Sunny with highs mostly in the mid 80's, but some upper 80's for northern Nassau, and it will be cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the WSW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and SSW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end.
