Cooler today, but the humid weather will continue through the weekend:

- With cloud cover and an onshore flow, today will be cooler for Long Island with highs only in the low to mid 70's. Summer-like weather returns for tomorrow to Friday with very warm to hot and humid conditions with plenty of sunshine.

- There will be some showers and thunderstorms at times this weekend with heavy downpours.

- No action in the tropics for the foreseeable future.

Tomorrow: Very humid with increasing sunshine by late morning with a 30% chance of a thunderstorm in the late afternoon or evening with highs in the low to mid 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Light and variable wind in the morning and then out of the S at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, very warm, and humid with highs mostly in the mid to upper 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Light and variable wind in the morning and then out of the S at around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Friday: Mostly sunny, hot, and humid with a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening. Highs mostly in the upper 80's to around 90 degrees, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the S to SSW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday: Partly sunny and very warm and humid with a 50% chance of some scattered showers and thunderstorms with the potential for heavy downpours in the afternoon and evening. Highs in the mid to upper 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the S to SSW at 5 mph in the morning and 10 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday: Partly to mostly cloudy and humid with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms with the potential for heavy downpours. Highs mostly in the low 80's. Wind mostly out of the N at around 5 mph.
