Dense and dangerous near-surface smoke to return later today!

The haze/smoke will be relatively light this morning into early afternoon before a dense plume of mostly near-surface smoke is projected to arrive by mid to late afternoon from northwest to southeast with moderate levels continuing into tomorrow.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:

Today: Mostly sunny in the morning with some clouds and widespread dense haze/smoke arriving around mid-afternoon with highs in the mid 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NW/WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight: Dense haze/smoke with poor air quality in the evening. Lows in the mid 50's in Nassau and low to mid 50's in Suffolk. Wind out of the N at 5 to 10 mph.

Tomorrow: Hazy sunshine from wildfire smoke with partly cloudy conditions in the afternoon with a 20% chance of a late afternoon shower with highs in the low 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NW at 5 mph or less in the morning and 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Partly cloudy in the morning and mostly cloudy in the afternoon with a 50% chance of some scattered showers in the afternoon with highs in the upper 60's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NNW around 5 mph in the morning and then out of the WSW then SW at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday: Mostly sunny in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon with a slight chance of a shower with highs in the low to mid 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NW at around 5 mph in the morning and then out of the WNW at around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the WNW around 5 mph in the morning and then out of the SSW then S around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Monday: Mostly cloudy with a 60% chance of showers, especially in the afternoon/evening with highs in the mid 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the SSE at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
