Hot and humid, thunderstorms, tropics, and the Long Island forecast:

- The Heat Advisory for Long Island continues until 8 PM tomorrow. The heat index will be mostly in the upper 90's today and mid 90's tomorrow.

- There is a slight chance of a thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening.

- While there is still a chance of a scattered shower or thunderstorm tomorrow, most of the day and evening should be dry for most of Long Island. The models continue to hold off most of the rain until after 11 PM (see 5th and 6th images for 1 AM Sunday).

- Even Sunday doesn't look like widespread coverage of showers and thunderstorms.

- The humid weather will continue into next week, and a cold front Wednesday evening should bring in a drier air mass for Thursday.

- The tropics continue to remain quiet for the foreseeable future.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:

Today: Mostly sunny, hot, and humid with highs mostly in the upper 80's to low 90's with a heat index mostly in the mid to upper 90's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the SSW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Slight chance of a stray thunderstorm in the evening, otherwise partly cloudy, warm, and humid with lows in the low to mid 70's. Wind around 5 to 10 mph from the SW early and then less than 5 mph after midnight.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny, hot, and humid with a 40% chance of some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 80's with a heat index mostly in the mid 90's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Light and variable wind in the morning and then around 10 mph in the afternoon out of the S to SSE.

Tomorrow night: Increasing clouds and humid with a 60% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mostly after 9 PM. Lows in the low to mid 70's. Wind around 5 to 10 mph from the SSW.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy and humid with a 50% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms at times with the potential for heavy downpours. Highs mostly in the low 80's. Wind out of the SSW to WSW at around 5 to 10 mph.

Monday: Mostly cloudy and still humid with a 40% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms with highs mostly in the upper 70's to low 80's. Wind around 5 to 10 mph from varying directions.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy and humid with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm with highs in the low to mid 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind mostly out of the NNE to E at 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny with a 30% chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon/evening. Highs mostly in the mid 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and less humid with highs in the low to mid 80's.
