Icy conditions, comments on the weekend with mild weather ahead, and the Long Island forecast:

- Be careful in eastern Suffolk and of course in New England early this morning with potentially icy conditions on untreated surfaces.

- It will be very mild on Saturday, and most of the rain for Long Island will be in the morning with the warm front and again in the evening when the cold front comes through with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. It will also be windy with gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon and as high as 40 mph possible in the evening.

- Next week will generally be dry and mild.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:

Today: Mostly sunny in the morning with increasing clouds in the afternoon with highs in the low 40's. Wind out of the NW at 10 to 15 mph in the morning and then decreasing to less than 5 mph by evening.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a very slight chance of some sprinkles or flurries after midnight with lows in the low 30's in Nassau and around 30 degrees in Suffolk. Light and variable wind.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon with with highs just above 50 degrees. Wind out of the SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Tomorrow night: Increasing clouds with a chance of light showers after midnight with lows in the low 40's. Wind generally light and variable.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, breezy, and mild with showers at times, mostly before mid-morning and then again starting around late afternoon or early evening with highs in the low 60's. Wind out of the SSW at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

Saturday night: Rainy, windy, and mild with a very slight chance of a thunderstorm until around midnight, and then decreasing clouds and turning cooler. Lows around 40 degrees. Wind out of the SSW early in the evening at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and then shifting to WNW by morning at 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday: Sunny and breezy with highs in the upper 40's. Wind out of the WNW at 10 to 20 mph.

Monday: Mostly sunny and breezy with highs just above 50 degrees. Wind out of the WSW at 10 to 20 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with highs in the low 50's. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy with highs in the low 50's.
