Important tropical update with significant land impacts and also the Long Island forecast:

There is a lot going on in the tropics! The 3 main features though are Paulette, Tropical Depression Nineteen, and Invest 95L:

  • Tropical Storm Paulette: Paulette is expected to strengthen to 100 to 110 mph maximum sustained winds and come very close to Bermuda Monday morning, which will obviously bring major impacts from storm surge, flooding rainfall, and significant wind damage.

  • Invest 95L: This is the system in the eastern Atlantic, and it will likely become Teddy early next week. It has a good chance of becoming a hurricane, but the good news so far is that most of the models are showing it curving to the north before getting to the Leeward Islands.

  • Tropical Depression Nineteen (soon-to-be Tropical Storm Sally): It's located over southern Florida right now, and it will be emerging into the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico with low to moderate wind shear and high atmospheric moisture content, so it will likely become a strong tropical storm or possibly even a minimal Category 1 hurricane as it nears the central Gulf Coast states Monday night. It's really important to note though that it will be moving very slowly! There is tremendous flooding rainfall potential with some areas receiving 10 to 15 inches, possibly right along the coast and just offshore from the western Panhandle into the MS coast.
