Update on 120 mph Hurricane Delta and the Long Island forecast:
Hurricane Delta is a Cat 3 with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph and a minimum central pressure of 953 mb. Landfall will occur early this evening in the western half of the Louisiana coast, and some slight weakening due to wind shear and cooler waters near the coast will probably drop it to 110 mph wind, just below Cat 3. Either way, major life-threatening impacts will occur with a storm surge of 7 to 11 feet with wind gusts greater than 100 mph right along the coast with rainfall amounts exceeding 12 inches in some area.
