Update on the showers and thunderstorms before the nice weekend:

- Showers with some moderate to heavy downpours are moving across Long Island early this morning. Then it will be a very warm and humid day before a chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening with a cold front with strong to possibly severe thunderstorms in New England.
- It won't be quite as humid tomorrow, and then there will be showers tomorrow evening for Long Island before the nice weekend with sunshine and lower humidity with highs in the mid 80's.
- The heat returns for the middle to end of next week with Friday probably being the hottest day before a cold front approaches.
- No tropical storms or hurricanes are expected in the Atlantic Basin for the next 10 days.
LONG ISLAND FORECAST:
Today: Early morning showers and thunderstorms, very humid, and becoming partly sunny with a slight chance for a late afternoon thunderstorm with highs in the mid to upper 80's with the highest readings for northwestern areas of Long Island (heat index in the low to mid 90's), but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the S to SSW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy and humid with a 50% chance of a shower or thunderstorm between 6 PM and 11 PM with lows in the mid 70's in Nassau and low 70's in Suffolk. Wind mostly out of the SSW and then W at 5 to 10 mph.
Tomorrow: Partly cloudy with increasing clouds in the afternoon and humid with a 40% chance of some scattered showers or thunderstorms late in the afternoon (much better chance in the evening) with highs in the mid 80's (heat index around 90 degrees), but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the WSW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and out of the SW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
Tomorrow night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm with lows around 70 degrees. Wind out of the WNW at 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny with low humidity in the afternoon with highs in the mid 80's, but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind generally out of the WNW to NW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
Sunday: Mostly sunny with low to moderate humidity with highs mostly in the mid 80's, but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the NW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and then out of the SSW at around 10 mph in the afternoon.
Monday: Partly cloudy with moderate to high humidity with highs mostly in the mid 80's, but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind mostly out of the SSW to S at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
Tuesday: Partly sunny and humid with a 30% chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the late afternoon with highs in the upper 80's (heat index in the low to mid 90's), but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the SW at 5 to 10 mph.
