Welcome to June and the start of hurricane season! Heat is coming! Overview and the LI forecast:

- June 1st is officially the start of Atlantic hurricane season, and it's going to be a busy one again!

- Here's the overview for Long Island in one sentence: It will be mostly cloudy and seasonable today and tomorrow, cloudy and humid with rain at times and possibly a thunderstorm with some heavy downpours on Thursday into Friday morning, and then mostly sunny and warm this weekend with mostly hot and dry weather for next week.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:

Today: Mostly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 70's. Light winds out of the WSW at 5 mph in the morning and SW at 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with lows mostly in the mid to upper 50's. Wind out of the SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 70's, but cooler for the south shore and east end, especially by mid to late afternoon. Wind out of the SW at 5 mph in the morning and out of the S at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday: Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, humid, and breezy with moderate to heavy downpours possible. Highs in the low 70's. Wind out of the S at 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon.

Friday: Cloudy and humid with a 40% chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mostly in the morning into early afternoon. Highs in the mid 70's. Wind mostly out of the SW at 10 to 15 mph

Saturday: Mostly sunny with highs in the low 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the WSW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and out of the SSW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with highs mostly in the low to mid 80's, but cooler for the south shore and east end.

Monday: Mostly sunny with highs mostly in the mid 80's, but some upper 80's for northern Nassau, and it will be cooler for the south shore and east end.
