Update on Tropical Storm Florence, "Gordon", and Long Island Weather

September 3, 2018

- Quick update on Long Island: Heat Advisory today and tomorrow for Nassau and NW Suffolk for heat indices in the upper 90's due to temps in the low 90's and dew points in the low 70's. Still hot Wed and Thurs, but a cold front comes through Friday, so this coming weekend looks much less humid and cooler. However, it looks like the humidity returns again next week!
- It looks like the threat to the east coast from Tropical Storm Florence is slowly increasing! The 1st image shows the Euro ensemble tracks, and now we even have to watch Florida. It's still too early to know exactly, but if the high pressure ridge builds in, it would prevent it from coming up the coast and instead, it would force it into the southeast states. The 2nd image is from the National Hurricane Center. The weaker Florence is in the new few days, the more likely that it will stay on a more southerly track. The Euro shows it weakening enough to take that southerly track, and then it rapidly strengthens it into a hurricane before getting to the east coast of the United States.
- Potential Tropical Cyclone 6, which will become Tropical Storm Gordon today, will bring heavy rain to southern Florida this morning and then track towards New Orleans (see 3rd image).
