Beneficial rain this morning before the heat this week:

It looks like periods of showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday from the stalled front, with the best chance being in the afternoon each day. It will also be very humid from Thursday through the weekend.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:

Today: Cloudy, humid, and cooler with showers early in the morning, occasionally moderate to heavy, becoming more scattered by mid to late morning with a slight chance of an isolated afternoon thunderstorm with some breaks of sun late in the day. Highs in the upper 70's, but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind mostly out of the ESE to SSE at 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy and humid with a slight chance of some patchy fog with lows in the low 70's in Nassau and in the upper 60's to around 70 degrees in Suffolk. Wind becoming light and variable.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, hot, and humid with a slight chance of a widely scattered afternoon shower or thunderstorm with highs in the upper 80's to around 90 degrees (heat index in the low to mid 90's), but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the SSW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and WSW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Tomorrow night: Mostly clear with lows in the low 70's. Wind out of the NNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, hot, and less humid with highs mostly in the upper 80's to near 90 degrees, but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the N at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and then out of the S at around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and oppressively hot/humid with highs in the low to mid 90's with heat index temperatures around 97 to 102 degrees, but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the SSW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon. There is a chance of thunderstorms in the evening/night.

Friday: Partly sunny, hot, and very humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms with highs in the upper 80's with heat index temperatures in the low to mid 90's, but cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind out of the SSW at around 10 mph.

Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy and very humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon, with highs in the mid to possibly upper 80's (heat index in the low 90's), but a little cooler for the south shore and east end. Wind light and variable in the morning and then out of the S at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
