Near ground-level wildfire smoke/haze to move in this afternoon into tonight...

... but maybe the more dense areas stay just south of Long Island overnight into tomorrow morning, but it's a close call. The 2nd to 4th images show the projected smoke density for 3 PM today, 11:00 tonight, and 1 PM tomorrow.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:

Today: Hazy sunshine with areas of near ground-level smoke at times from wildfires in Nova Scotia, mainly in the afternoon and evening/night with highs in the upper 60's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the E at 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight: Areas of haze/low-level smoke from the Nova Scotia wildfires, otherwise mostly clear with lows in the low 50's in Nassau and mostly mid to upper 40's in Suffolk. Wind out of the ESE at 5 to 10 mph in the evening and then light and variable after midnight.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy in the morning with some haze/smoke possible and then mostly sunny in the afternoon with highs in the low 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NE around 5 mph in the morning and then out of the ESE at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy with lows in the mid to upper 50's in Nassau and low to mid 50's in Suffolk. Wind out of the SSE at 5 to 10 mph in the evening and then nearly calm after midnight.

Thursday: Partly cloudy in the morning and then sunny with highs around 81 degrees in Nassau and in the upper 70's to near 80 degrees in Suffolk, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind light and variable in the morning and then out of the SSE at around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Friday: Mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80's in Nassau and low to mid 80's in Suffolk, but much cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the W at around 5 mph in the morning and then out of the SSW then S at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy and becoming breezy with a 30% chance of some showers with highs around 70 degrees, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the ENE then E at 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with highs in the low 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NE at around 10 mph in the morning and then out of the ENE to ESE at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Monday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70's in Nassau and mid 70's in Suffolk, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind mostly out of the NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
