Happy Flag Day! Strong thunderstorms here with a MAJOR severe weather threat in the deep south!

While there is a MAJOR severe weather threat in the deep south today, there will also be strong to potentially severe thunderstorms in the northeast with heavy downpours, hail, and strong gusty winds. It will be radar-watching time this afternoon, and not everyone will get a strong thunderstorm (lower chances east). I have included images of the future radar for 3 PM and 7 PM and also the maximum projected hail size to show the general idea/potential.


LONG ISLAND FORECAST:

Today (Flag Day): Partly sunny to mostly cloudy and breezy with heavy showers/ strong thunderstorms in the afternoon with the potential for heavy downpours, gusty winds over 45 mph, and small hail with highs in the mid 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the S at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Tonight: Scattered showers/ thunderstorms early in the evening and breezy and then partly cloudy with lows mostly in the upper 50's to near 60 degrees. Wind out of SSW then W at 10 to 20 mph.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny and a little breezy with highs around 80 degrees in Nassau and in the upper 70's in Suffolk, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the WNW at 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 20 mph.

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy with lows in the low 60's in Nassau and in the upper 50's to near 60 degrees in Suffolk. Wind out of the W at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with some scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mostly in the afternoon and evening with highs in the mid 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind light and variable in the morning and then out of the S at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday: Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of a scattered showers/ thunderstorms in the afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NW at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday (Father's Day): Mostly sunny in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon with highs in the upper 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Monday: Partly sunny with a 30% chance of an afternoon shower with highs in the upper 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the NE/ENE at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and then out of the SE at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with showers likely with highs in the mid 70's, but cooler for the south shore and especially the east end. Wind out of the E at 10 to 20 mph.
