It's a very complex storm setup with the inverted trough placement and track of the coastal low with the stall/small loop, and also we need to rely on dynamic cooling to overcome the daytime March sun angle. The storm setup is actually not that different from the Blizzard of 1888, which occurred on this date as well. We don't have as much cold air to work with though.
There should be some interesting model runs later today and tonight.
